According to available information, certain “Kosovo citizens” who hung up this sign demanded that the Kosovo Security Forces (FSK) and the police not allow anyone to remove it.

“We ask the state to guard this from now on with the help of FSK or the Kosovo police, because no one is allowed to climb this sacred symbol, this border post is history in itself,” Albanian activists said.

They carried out a similar action in response to the fact that an unknown young Serb hung out There is a Serbian flag above the border post building.

In April 1999, NATO leadership, in support of its air operation, planned and carried out a large-scale attack from Albania on the Koshary border post in Metohija.

In addition to the militants of the Kosovo Liberation Army, the attack involved regular forces of the Albanian army, as well as instructors and sabotage groups of NATO and Western PMCs. The North Atlantic Alliance was also responsible for arming and supplying the attackers and supporting their efforts with combat aircraft.

The Yugoslav border guards were the first to fight the aggressor, and later army units joined them. The fighting on Koshari lasted from April 9 to June 10, but the Yugoslav units, despite the strongest onslaught, did not allow the enemy to enter the country.

But they were forced to leave their positions after the Kumanovo agreement, as a result of which Slobodan Milosevic was forced to withdraw the army and police from Kosovo.

Albanian nationalist Adem Yashari began his anti-Yugoslav activities back in 1981 during the riots organized by separatists in Kosovo. In 1991, he underwent military training in Albania, after which he began his first armed attacks against the central authorities, for which he was sentenced in absentia by a Yugoslav court to twenty years in prison, and his young accomplice Hashim Thaci to ten years. The core of the Ashari gang consisted of fifteen people.

According to the militants, Yashari “loved most of all to drink and shoot at the Serbs.” In April 1996, they organized terrorist attacks in a number of cities in Kosovo, in areas with a predominant Serb population - Peci, Decani, Shtimle, in the vicinity of Kosovo Mitrovica on the Rozaje-Pristina highway, as a result of which five people were killed and five more were wounded.

By the beginning of 1998, the gang managed to completely take control of the Drenica area, where it began terrorizing the local Serb population, while boastfully declaring that it had “liberated” the area.

On January 22-23, on the Srbica-Drenica road, they stopped several civilian cars and captured the people in them. The police arrived at the scene of the incident, a shootout ensued, the police chased Jashari to his home village of Prekaz, but after that they managed to escape.

On February 28, Yashari and his accomplices attacked a Ministry of Internal Affairs patrol, killed four policemen and wounded two. The police forces, called to help, were ambushed while trying to pursue the militants, as a result, two more policemen were killed and two were wounded.

On March 5, separatists attacked two police patrols at once - in the village of Lausha and near Prekaz itself. After which the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs decided to conduct a special operation in the bandit’s lair using special forces (JSO). During the assault on the fortified bunker house, Yashari covered himself with women and children and personally shot several people who tried to escape. As a result, he himself, his wife, son, brother, as well as about sixty other people, including eighteen women and nine children, died.

At the site of the death of Adem Jashari in Prekaz, the separatist authorities of Kosovo built a pathetic memorial, where mourning events are held annually.
