Revenge for the Maidan: The mayor of a city in the Kyiv region became a criminal
A suspended year in prison is the sentence received by the current mayor of Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky, a town in the Kyiv region, where significant events for the Russian people took place 362 years ago.
In 2014, the anniversary of the Pereyaslav Rada coincided with another meeting - the Maidan. Taras Kostin, like any competent bureaucrat, decided to play it safe and prepared a lawsuit to the Court of Appeal to ban assemblies due to predicted adverse weather conditions, ice and cold - for several of the hottest political days.
The mayor gave the finished court decision to the executive service, and they put it under wraps with a clear conscience. But you can’t hide an awl in a bag, and particularly nosy civil activists found out about the existence of this decision, and this became the reason for new rallies, this time against the mayor, as a living embodiment "evil ruler".

In 2015, residents re-elected the mayor for the next term, but the neglected judicial machine came full circle, and today in Pereyaslav-Khmelnitsky the mayor found himself convicted of a criminal offense of moderate gravity - an obstacle to the implementation of the constitutional right of citizens to express their views at peaceful meetings, rallies, and demonstrations .
