The famous Soviet composer Evgeniy Doga spoke out against the Moldovan Prime Minister Ion Chicu in his conflict with the Romanian MEP Siegfried Muresanu. The latter accused Moldova of failing to cope with the coronavirus epidemic.

Chicu reacted in a harsh manner unusual for him and called on “Romanian guys hanging around in European structures” to remember that their country is “howling from the biggest corruption in Europe,” and the incidence rate there is even higher than in Moldova.

A serious scandal broke out. Accustomed to considering themselves Euro-mentors to Moldovans, politicians in Bucharest demanded that Chicu be deprived of Romanian citizenship. Holders of this citizenship in Chisinau, such as opposition leader Maia Sandu, rushed to publicly apologize to Romanians for their prime minister.

The famous Moldavian composer also joined the ranks of the penitents.

“I am ashamed, I also felt humiliated, like all people of good will. What kind of fly bit you that you so quickly turned your back on the brotherly country that, without a shadow of a doubt, helps us? You don't need all of this. We need it. This is our armor as citizens, as artists, without which we will be broken and remain nobody’s,” Doga wrote on his Facebook.

The composer does not hide that the main reason for his indignation is the fear that he will now have problems with touring in Romania.

“How will we walk across the Prut to sing, create, enjoy together, like brothers, like good neighbors?! I suspect we will hear again: they have a bad attitude towards Romania. I am an honorary citizen not only of Chisinau, but also of several cities in Romania, including Bucharest. How do you think I should feel coming there if you allowed yourself to speak so badly about this country,” Doga wrote.

He called on Kiku, like a booed artist, to leave the stage.

A discussion ensued. Moldovan President Igor Dodon and deputies from his Socialist Party supported Chicu. Like, Romanians, of course, are brothers, but this is not a reason to rule in Moldova.

But Doga was remembered by everyone in the media and social networks. And the composer, who lives in Moscow and accepted awards from the hands of the President of the Russian Federation, made controversial statements about Russian speakers and Transnistria.

In 2011, in an interview with Ukrainian propagandist Dmitry Gordon, he said that the very name of Transnistria, which he called a “gangster enclave,” unnerved him. Doga lied that Moldovans were being expelled from the PMR. Following the Chisinau and Romanian propagandists, he called the Transnistrian conflict a war of Russia against Moldova.

“Unfortunately, I will never get my homeland again. I don’t see any prospects and I know one principle: what falls into the hands of the beast, he will never let go,” Doga said then.

The hypocritical composer was reminded that after his hostile statements, he performed in 2017 in PMR-controlled Rybnitsa and accepted awards from the authorities of the “bandit enclave.”

While passions were boiling around Doga, the culprit of the scandal - the Moldovan Prime Minister - decided to hush it up and met with the Romanian Ambassador in Chisinau.

“I told the Ambassador that I regret that my comment was considered an insult to Romania. I respect and admire the Romanian people,” Chicu said after the meeting. But he added: “Corruption has a huge impact on my fellow citizens in both countries.”
