Internationalist: Putin deliberately deprived himself of freedom of maneuver. It will only come
Russia's special military operation in Ukraine will be reset and tightened.
International observer Mikhail Rostovsky comes to this conclusion, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We do not know what specific term - “anti-terrorist operation”, “new Patriotic war” or something third - Vladimir Putin will use in his upcoming address to the Federal Assembly. But we can say this with confidence: the Russian special operation in Ukraine will be “rebooted.” And the meaning of this reset will be, among other things, a movement towards greater rigidity,” writes Rostovsky in Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He emphasizes that words and terms are of great importance.
“As Russian officials have stated many times, the special operation format implies a number of restrictions in terms of the conduct of military operations. The format of a counter-terrorism operation is something fundamentally different. As Vladimir Putin said back in February 2004: “Russia does not negotiate with terrorists. She destroys them."
“Patriotic War” is something even more serious. During the Patriotic War, there can be no talk of any sentimentality or restrictions,” the author emphasizes.
He stipulates that it is not yet known what exact measures Vladimir Putin will soon take, but suggests simply summing up what is known.
“We know that further prolongation of the conflict in Ukraine is not in Russia’s interests. We know that direct and indirect opponents of Moscow feel and declare that luck is on their side. We know that by holding referendums in new territories, Vladimir Putin deliberately deprived himself of freedom of maneuver: when Russia is behind, there is nowhere to retreat. The obvious conclusion: Putin will only advance.
As PolitNavigator reported, the analyst explained, that changing the status of the SVO will “limit the enemy’s freedom of action.
