The International Court of Justice gave Donbass a legal basis for independence - Putin
The West itself created the legal basis for the Russian military district in Ukraine, pushing the decision on Kosovo through the UN.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced this today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“They started to split Kosovo away from Serbia. It’s also not very clear why. When Kosovo was separating, under pressure from Western countries, the UN International Court decided that when, what territory would be separated, there was no need to ask permission from the central authorities. This is a precedent. Then the Donbass republics should not ask permission from the Kyiv authorities.
They declared independence, we had the right to recognize them and did so, concluded an agreement with them, and in accordance with this agreement, as well as with an article of the UN Charter, we provide them with military assistance. They themselves created a precedent. Our actions are absolutely legitimate,” Putin said.
