To criticize the actions of the country's leadership and the Ministry of Defense, one must, at a minimum, have complete information and analyze diverse data. In the USSR, those who liked to write about traitors and spies were treated simply - they were sent for compulsory treatment.
This opinion was expressed in the “Political Department” program on “Crimea 24” by Nikolai Mezhevich, Doctor of Economic Sciences, President of the Association of Baltic Studies, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for criticism of Shoigu, Lavrov or Putin, what can I say? I think that our Minister of Defense will not be very offended if I say that the genius of Suvorov, the genius of Nakhimov - this was in Suvorov and Nakhimov, and that happens once every couple of centuries,” he emphasized.
Mezhevich explained that even the most competent specialist does not have complete knowledge of the data - this is how the system is built.
“All of them are mostly localized specialists. For example, I can more or less imagine the European line. Baltic and Belarusian, I hope that I represent them very well. The Balkans are already significantly more complicated. If we need to talk about Armenia, I will still immediately say that there is Sergei Miroslavovich Markedonov, please go there. There are also specialists in Turkey, for each region.
For example, in the structure of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs there is a department where people do not deal with a specific territory - they generalize what specialists in territorial and sectoral areas have given them. And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of any other state is structured exactly the same way, and in any system, in the part that is associated with analysis, everything looks approximately the same,” the scientist pointed out.
Therefore, according to him, you cannot focus all your energy and attention on one direction, since there is a big risk of missing an important point in another.
“It is very dangerous to be localized even on the same diseased boil or carbuncle in an unpleasant place. And on this basis, ignore that your leg is pulled into a binder or a brick falls on your head. And this is now possible. Therefore, I completely agree that if there is not enough knowledge to support an absolutely neutral position, it is better to proceed from the assumption that the top leaders of the state know the situation better than you,” the professor said.
“Suppose you are as talented, and I would say, brilliant, as the President of Russia. But he has all the primary information, and you don’t. Therefore, assume that he draws the right conclusions and you do not. That’s all,” Mezhevich explained.
Speaking about bloggers who have no idea about the subject of conversation, but “competently” comment on events, Mezhevich recalled that in the Soviet Union, those who liked to write many letters were sooner or later sent for treatment.
“This is not punitive psychiatry at all, they just helped with medication. Because if you write the 155th letter to the chairman of the KGB that your neighbor in a communal apartment in Leningrad works for Chinese intelligence, then they will pay attention to you,” the professor explained.
“Now the time is different: democracy, the media have become publicly accessible. Why is there such a news story about Mr. Panin’s difficult relationship with dogs? Because it's interesting, it's original. It is not interesting to analyze the situation in Central and Eastern Europe, because it is quite difficult, you need to imagine what we are talking about. It is advisable to visit there, not in a tour group, but to live. Yes, it is time for such information freedom. And what’s most interesting is that you can’t work with a switch here – you need to work with convictions,” Mezhevich emphasized.
