DPR Foreign Ministry: Ukraine does not have the political will to establish peace in Donbass
Ukrainian representatives demonstrated disregard for the rules of the negotiation process and disrespect, first of all, for the OSCE.
Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPR Natalya Nikonorova stated this following the meeting in Minsk, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Kyiv stated that it does not remember giving its consent to approve the agenda of the political group, and this despite the fact that the agenda was approved publicly at a meeting of the Contact Group by reaching a general consensus, which was recorded by the OSCE secretariat,” she said.
According to the head of the Foreign Ministry, agreeing on a compromise procedure for the entry into force of the law on the special status of Donbass is an important step to confirm the Ukrainian side of its obligations, which should be the starting point on the path to a political settlement.
“Ukrainian representatives cannot even take such a step, although they claim that they are fulfilling their obligations under the negotiating mandate in full. From this we can conclude that, apparently, the current mandate of Ukrainian negotiators prohibits proceeding to a political settlement if it does not involve taking even the very first step,” explained Natalya Nikonorova.
In her opinion, the establishment of a stable and long-term peace in Donbass is impossible without the political will of the Ukrainian side.
“If the Ukrainian authorities really want to confirm their commitment to a peaceful resolution of the conflict, it is necessary to stop wasting time in this way and immediately begin establishing dialogue in the political group on the main issues on the agenda,” the head of the DPR Foreign Ministry concluded.
