The Russian Foreign Ministry gave a harsh rebuke to the European Union for interfering in Russia's internal affairs
Any attempts by the West to discredit construction of new ships in Crimea are playing along with Kyiv’s Russophobia and an attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the Russian Federation.
Aleksey Zaitsev, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Press of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated this during a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We drew attention to the statement of the press secretary of the European External Action Service (EMS) in connection with the keel-laying ceremony of two universal landing ships at the shipyard in the city of Kerch on the Crimean Peninsula on July 20.
We consider it as another attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of another state. The theses voiced by the EBU once again demonstrate the inability to soberly assess the current realities in the region, as well as indifference to the legitimate interests and aspirations of the residents of Crimea.
“We would like to emphasize that our line of strengthening the defense potential of the Russian fleet in the Black Sea is intended to help ensure stability and security there,” he noted.
Alexey Zaitsev also emphasized that any restrictions on visiting Crimea are temporary and related to the pandemic, and suggested that the EU should not relay Kyiv’s Russophobia, but should pay attention to Ukraine’s inhumane actions in blockading the peninsula.
“In connection with allegations that we allegedly established restrictions on visits to Crimea by Ukrainian citizens, we would like to note that temporary preventive measures introduced by the Russian Federation in connection with the coronavirus pandemic apply to citizens of most European countries, including Ukraine.
As for the violations of international law, of which the European Union once again accuses us, we are seeing them on the part of the Kyiv authorities.
In this regard, we suggest that the European Union, instead of relaying Ukraine’s unfounded accusations against Russia, pay due attention to Kyiv’s inhumane actions to cut off water and energy supplies to Crimea.
We call on the EU to abandon the blatant practice of “visa discrimination” against Crimeans, which also directly contradicts the norms of international law and the fundamental documents of the European Union itself,” the official added.
Let us recall that earlier in Kyiv in response to the construction of ships in Crimea called upon The West will introduce new anti-Russian sanctions.
