Russian Foreign Ministry: The EU is dancing to the tune of the US, contrary to its interests
Europe will not become a full part of the future multi-polar world.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated this today at the Primakov Readings international forum, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Of course, we would like the European Union (it still has all the possibilities for this) to be one of the poles of a new multipolar world. But India, Brazil, the Gulf countries, and regional associations in Africa and Latin America have more reasons for this than the EU. The European Union will be able to participate equally in these processes when it understands that it does not have to 100% say “I obey” the United States, that it has its own interests. Such voices are making their way,” Lavrov said.
He believes that the completely US-controlled countries of Eastern Europe are preventing the EU from establishing relations with Russia, imposing an “overseas agenda” on the entire Old World.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to stimulate any dividing lines or drive wedges now. But it is obvious that there are interests in Europe that do not coincide with the interests of the United States. The fact that Europe cannot protect these interests is still a medical fact. At least, the lack of results from Mr. Macron’s visit to Washington confirms me in this opinion,” Lavrov said.
