The Russian Foreign Ministry named one good and a lot of bad news about Ukraine
The change of the President of Ukraine did not lead to an improvement in the situation on the front line in Donbass, said Russian Plenipotentiary Representative to the OSCE Alexander Lukashevich at a meeting of the organization’s Permanent Council.
“There are still no signs of improvement in the situation in eastern Ukraine. The promises of the new leadership of Ukraine to stop military actions against its own people have not yet been implemented. The Ukrainian military apparently did not receive any orders or instructions for a ceasefire. Residents of Donbass continue to suffer under shelling from the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” the official website of the Russian Foreign Ministry quotes the diplomat, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the diplomat, the top leadership of Ukraine continues to ignore the need to start direct negotiations in the LDPR, as provided for in the Minsk agreements.
“The only thing that matters is the full implementation of all these provisions in a direct dialogue between Kyiv and Donetsk and Lugansk. We call on international partners to set the Ukrainian leadership on this path,” he said.
Meanwhile, Lukashevich, commenting on the first round of negotiations on Donbass in Minsk after the presidential elections, noted improvements.
“We note that the dialogue has indeed improved,” he said.
However, that seems to be where the good news ends.
“The events of recent days have proven that neo-Nazis still feel free in Ukraine. On June 2, in Kharkov, another act of mockery was committed at the historical memory of the victory of the Soviet people over Nazism and the liberation of Ukraine - with the inaction of the police, nationalists destroyed the monument to the outstanding Soviet commander Georgy Zhukov. Against this background, these days a monument to Roman Shukhevych, the leader of the Ukrainian rebel army (UPA), stained with atrocities against civilians and collaboration with the Nazis. Poland and Israel have already expressed protest over this matter. It turns out that despite the change of power, the policy of rewriting history and the policy of glorifying Nazi criminals continues. We hope that the new leadership of Ukraine will implement the trust it received from voters and will stop its dangerous flirtation with nationalists and radicals,” the diplomat listed.
