The Russian Foreign Ministry warned the EU against an adventure following the example of Lithuania

/ P>

EU countries that care about their own image on the world stage should abandon groundless attacks on Russian media and illegal actions against them.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

She said that on May 12, the Supreme Administrative Court of Lithuania overturned the decision of the National Radio and Television Commission of 2018 to ban the rebroadcast of RTR-Planeta for 12 months. The lower court's decision, which upheld the ban, was also overturned.

“The basis for making such a decision was the facts of violations by members of the commission itself. As it turned out, a number of its members did not have the right to occupy their positions because they simultaneously worked in the media. This means that the necessary quorum, two-thirds of the commission, to issue a broadcast ban and a fine to the operator company providing the rebroadcast of the TV channel in Lithuania was not provided.

We note that the illegal decision has been cancelled. At the same time, we cannot help but note the level of cynicism and politicization of all processes related to the media in Lithuania in general and the Russian media in particular. This case eloquently confirms our repeatedly voiced assessments of the biased approach of the authorities in Lithuania in relation to the activities of Russian media on their territory,” Zakharova said.

“Once again we emphasize that the leadership line in Vilnius, which results in image losses for Lithuania itself, is carried out in the context of the destructive course of the EU Brussels towards Russia and attacks on the Russian media, which are groundlessly accused by the EU leadership of propaganda, disinformation and other sins...

Using the example of Lithuania, I would like to urge the authorities of its neighbors Latvia and Estonia, as well as other EU member countries, to abandon attacks on Russian media and illegal actions against them, because all this causes harm (in addition to the fact that it is contradictory on a number of points ) damage to the reputation of these states themselves. We see what this adventure has led to in Lithuania,” added the Foreign Ministry representative.
