The Russian Foreign Ministry made an important clarification regarding the terrorist Sentsov
Russia has not negotiated with the United States on the exchange of Oleg Sentsov, convicted of plotting a terrorist attack in Crimea, for its citizens in custody in the United States.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.
“We were surprised by these media reports. No such agreement exists. This is misinformation. We demand that Washington immediately and unconditionally release Russian citizens,” Zakharova said.
Oleg Sentsov was sentenced by a Russian court to 20 years on charges of organizing terrorist attacks in Crimea. He was detained by the FSB among members of the “Right Sector” sabotage group (an extremist movement banned in the Russian Federation), who were preparing terrorist attacks in Yalta, Simferopol and Sevastopol. In mid-May, Sentsov went on a hunger strike, after which he is constantly under the supervision of medical workers.
Russian businessman Viktor But and pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko were convicted in the United States of promoting Colombian terrorism. Maria Butina is under arrest on suspicion of working as a foreign agent of Russia. Maria Zakharova said that Butina is a political prisoner.
