Russian Foreign Ministry: Erdogan’s words about Assad are an indirect quote
The statement by Turkish President Recep Erdogan about his intention to overthrow Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which is quoted by the media, is an indirect quote. Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.

“We have studied the issue. This quote caused a lot of noise. We were trying to understand whether it was said as it was quoted in the media. As far as I understand, this is an indirect quote. This was said off the record, in a retelling. We proceed from agreements, and not from quotes that may be presented incorrectly or taken out of context,” Zakharova said.
According to her, Russia bases its relations with Turkey on the agreements that were reached at the official level. In addition, Zakharova recalled, Turkey is obliged to comply with the UN Security Council resolution and the decisions of the International Group on Syria, of which it is a member. These documents provide for a peaceful resolution of the Syrian conflict.
