Russian Foreign Ministry: The Council of Europe has confused Crimea with Ukraine
Official Kyiv submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Council of Europe a draft decision on the deterioration of the human rights situation in Crimea and Sevastopol in order to divert attention from the discussion of the state of affairs in Ukraine.

The Department of Information and Press of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated this today, commenting on the decision taken by the EU Cabinet of Ministers.
“Unfortunately, the Committee of Ministers and the monitoring structures of the Council of Europe traditionally take a lenient position on this matter. And it’s not far from covering up crimes committed by the Ukrainian authorities or on their behalf,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The Russian Foreign Ministry believes that the discussion about “certain Ukrainian Crimea and Sevastopol” is constructed in the text of the decision by analogy with the situation in those regions that are under the control of the Ukrainian authorities and have nothing to do with the situation in Russian Crimea and Sevastopol.
“Their population is fully protected by Russian laws and UN and Council of Europe Conventions, including the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms. By the way, like any other Russian region, they are open to visits by any monitoring structures of the Council of Europe and other international organizations. But for this it is necessary to really be interested in the situation of people on this Russian territory, and not look for imaginary evidence of propaganda calls relayed from Kyiv,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
“The tired discussions about the “deterioration of the situation of the Crimean Tatars” do not take into account the fact that real positive changes in the restoration of their rights occurred only after the return of Crimea to Russia,” the Foreign Ministry summarized.
