The Russian Foreign Ministry once again condemned Latvia for infringing on Russian media
Latvia continues to “tighten the screws in the fight against the spread of Kremlin propaganda,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova told reporters about this today.
“Latvian legislators addressed the national council with a demand to more actively use the regulator’s right to broadcast those TV channels in whose programs violations were identified. Clearly, we are talking about further restrictive measures against Russian television channels. This initiative will hit the significant Russian-speaking audience in Latvia,” Zakharova said.
She recalled that in January correspondents from TVC and VGTRK were deported from Latvia, and last year the broadcasting of TVC and RTR “Planeta” was suspended. Cable television that decided to violate this ban was fined 150 thousand euros.
“The authorities of the Baltic republics continue to pursue a course of infringing on the Russian media and fighting them, which is aimed at trampling the rights of the Russian population. We remind you that relevant international organizations have repeatedly condemned the tactics of such bans and restrictions,” Zakharova said.
