The Russian Foreign Ministry is outraged by the closure of the Russian school in Vilnius
On January 11, 2017, the authorities of the Lithuanian capital decided to liquidate the Russian school and merge it with the embassy school in Vilnius. This was stated today by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

“This cannot but cause concern. Vilnius leaders explain the need for reform by a decline in student numbers due to mass immigration and the desire to provide quality education. In the case of a school, these arguments sound unconvincing. As of the day the decision to close was made, there were about 200 students studying there,” Zakharova said.
According to her, schools of national minorities are confident that such a reform will lead to a significant reduction in the number of Russian and Polish schools, and regard it as a systematic attack by the authorities on the right of national minorities to receive education in their native language.
“We hope that not only the Russian side, but also relevant international organizations that have a mandate to protect the educational rights of national minorities, will take measures to restore justice in this matter,” emphasized the representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
