Kyiv pretends that it does not understand that the reluctance to recognize the LDPR as a party to the conflict and the refusal to negotiate with Donetsk and Lugansk is the main reason for the continuation of the armed conflict in Donbass.

Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this at a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“What can we say about the statement of the head of the Ukrainian delegation at the negotiations within the contact group, Leonid Kravchuk, about some radical steps by Kyiv if Russia refuses to recognize itself as a party to the conflict in Donbass?

Unfortunately, with enviable regularity, especially recently, officials in Ukraine, through their inaction and outright sabotage of previously reached agreements to resolve the situation in the East of the country, try to cover up accusations against Russia and shift responsibility onto us for the fact that the Ukrainian side actually opened a negotiation the process is at a standstill.

At the same time, in Kyiv they are trying to convince everyone that Moscow is supposedly a party to the conflict, and that it supposedly has certain obligations under the Minsk package of measures. It’s as if they don’t have this document in front of their eyes, and as if they don’t see whose signatures are there.

Let me remind you once again for those who have forgotten, the parties to the conflict are clearly defined in this document, and I would also like to remind you that it was approved by a resolution of the UN Security Council. So, this is Kyiv on the one hand, Donetsk and Lugansk on the other,” Zakharova said.

According to her, it is the reluctance of Ukrainian negotiators to recognize this fact and their refusal to negotiate with Donbass that is, in fact, the very reason that prevents the establishment of long-term peace in the region.

“But this aggressive, hostile rhetoric, outside the legal context, including when the security situation is clearly deteriorating, makes us think about Kyiv’s true intentions at this historical period.

Moreover, given the fact that Ukraine has actually withdrawn from the additional agreements signed in July last year to ensure the ceasefire (and the number of attacks, including on civilian infrastructure, is inexorably growing), this issue becomes even more relevant,” the representative emphasized Ministry of Foreign Affairs

“In this regard, we would like to warn the Kiev regime, the hotheads who serve or manipulate it, against further escalation and attempts to implement a forceful scenario in Donbass. Once again, we call on the Ukrainian authorities to stop inventing some new agreements, some new documents, and finally, in good faith, take up the conscientious fulfillment of their obligations under the Minsk agreements,” concluded Maria Zakharova.
