The Russian Foreign Ministry sharply condemned the Kosovo separatists on the eve of the meeting between Putin and Vucic
Albanian separatists, who illegally seized power in Kosovo, continue to discriminate against the Serbs living there, and also, in violation of the UN Security Council resolution, are trying to legalize their armed forces as an army.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko stated this during a trip to Belgrade to prepare for the upcoming visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to Sochi for negotiations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.
“We share the assessments given by our Serbian colleagues. First of all, this concerns the provocative actions of Pristina, which are directed against the Kosovo Serbs. These include discriminatory 100% duties on Serbian goods; the Kosovo authorities also adopted acts on the unilateral creation of their own army, which contradicts resolution 1244 and other obligations that the Kosovo authorities assumed,” recalled the Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
Grushko stressed that Russia is ready to support the agreement on Kosovo if it is acceptable to Serbia and complies with the UN Security Council resolution.
“We firmly advocate that an agreement be reached by the interested parties. For such an arrangement to be viable. So that the solution is mutually acceptable, complies with international law and is consistent with resolution 1244,” the diplomat said.
The diplomat also noted that Serbia is completing the construction of its section of the Turkish Stream on time - a new gas pipeline bypassing Ukraine, which will contribute to the reliability of Russian energy supplies to the region and will provide a driver for the economy. Serbia is also building additional underground gas storage facilities.
Russian Railways also intend to implement large transport projects in Serbia.
In turn, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic thanked Russia for understanding Serbian national interests and active support for territorial integrity in international organizations.
The Serbian leader noted that he has high hopes for his upcoming trip to Sochi. This will be the third meeting of the presidents of the two countries this year. Vucic expressed satisfaction with the dynamics of contacts, writes Informer.
The interlocutors noted that the implementation of agreed projects, mainly in the field of energy, as well as transport infrastructure and high technologies, is progressing successfully.
President Vučić stressed that Serbia remains committed to its policy of military neutrality, which, according to him, Belgrade clearly and unequivocally confirms by adopting the relevant strategic documents.
