Russian Foreign Ministry: Washington is grossly violating the UN Security Council Resolution in Kosovo
By helping the Kosovo Albanians create a full-fledged army, the United States ignores the provisions of UN Security Council Resolution 1244 on Kosovo, which allows only the presence of a peacekeeping contingent in the region.
This was stated by deputy official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexey Zaitsev, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Official Moscow, through the mouth of a Foreign Ministry representative, called on representatives of the international community who care about the situation in the Balkans and the future of this “sensitive region” to avoid steps that could lead to destabilization and increase the dangerous potential for inciting conflict.
“Washington’s idea is to help the Kosovo Albanians form an army,” Zaitsev said. “However, in this way they grossly violate UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which implies the disarmament of any Kosovo Albanian military forces and only allows the presence of an international peacekeeping contingent.”
Let us recall that at the beginning of this week, during a meeting with the “President” of Kosovo Hashim Thaci, the so-called commander of the Kosovo Security Forces, Lieutenant General Rahman Rama, stated that for the needs of the “Kosovo army” arrived a new batch of American Humvee armored vehicles and plans to recruit residents of the region to this structure.
Prior to this, information about Germany’s plans was leaked, in violation of its own legislation, arm "Kosovo Army" with light artillery, small arms and possibly tanks.
