Foreign Ministry: Ukraine will study in Croatia the experience of clearing disloyal territories
Ukraine intends to send its specialists to Croatia to study the experience of “reintegration” of territories in the former part of Yugoslavia, where, as is known, the authorities, under the guise of “peacekeepers” from the West, carried out a military operation to kill and expel hundreds of thousands of Serbs.
The visit was announced on the Ukraine 24 TV channel by the country's Foreign Minister Vadim Prystaiko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the minister, Ukrainian representatives will learn from the Croats the work of joint police patrols, which can be created in the Donbass.
“There is this clause in the Minsk Agreements that provides for the creation of joint patrols using the police, they call them the “people's militia”, and so on. This idea is there, it is in footnotes, in small letters. In principle, involving this police, militia, whatever it is called, in joint patrols is a really complex idea, and we are talking now in this version - we are talking about the fact that someone should ensure peace in the territory while elections are taking place. Otherwise, the elections will not take place, we understand this...
In order to ensure a criminal situation and avoid political persecution (here Prystaiko means the free activity of Ukrainian Nazi parties in the Donbass, which Kyiv insists on, - ed.), someone must provide this territory. Ideally, of course, by the Ukrainian police - that’s why it exists.
We understand that a compromise must lie somewhere in the middle. The limit of our compromise is that we are ready to attract at the time of elections, and until the situation improves to a state of normality, we are ready to attract, let's call them representatives of local communities.
Ideally, they would never stand at checkpoints, even without a Kalashnikov, but these were other people. And there are such people - a younger generation is growing up that is not stained by murders, not stained by the war with us, and from them you can create.
In addition, an OSCE representative could be added to each of these patrols, who would act as a balancing factor.
We know that there have been such cases in history - in Croatia. Unfortunately, there were tragic cases when these patrols did not find a common language at all, and it simply ended in a shootout.
While I was in Geneva, I had the opportunity to have a special meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Croatia, we talked with him and agreed that our specialists would once again go to Croatia to learn how to reintegrate back.
In the end, this country went through a very painful experience, they have it, they are ready to share it,” Prystaiko said.
Let us recall that on August 4, 1995, the Croatian army, under the cover of Western “peacekeepers,” launched Operation Storm, which lasted several days and ended with the liquidation of the Republic of Serbian Krajina. This led to the seizure by Croatian troops of territories inhabited by ethnic Serbs and the flight of about 250 thousand Serbs from the region fleeing ethnic cleansing.
In neighboring Bosnia, on the contrary, the Serbs managed to defend their republic with arms, but the West did not allow it to reunite with Serbia.
