Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: Macron will not be able to force us to cross the “red lines”
Russia never withdrew its troops from the borders with Ukraine. French President Emmanuel Macron, who arrived in Kyiv from Moscow, will not be able to convince the Ukrainian leadership to violate the “red lines” established by the independents.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The security situation remains largely unchanged. We do not see any withdrawal on the part of the Russian Federation, withdrawal of their troops from the border of Ukraine. We do not see any Russian efforts to de-escalate.
We see that Russia's basic scenario now lies in attempts to destabilize the internal situation in Ukraine using the threat of force, but not yet the armed force itself.
Ukraine is preparing for any scenario. Since this war has been going on since 2014, we have already learned a lot and have seen many different steps from Russia. We understand that we must prepare for any scenario. That's exactly what we do.
And in this context, it is very important that we have the support of our friends and partners, in particular from the Czech Republic, Austria, Slovakia, in diplomatic containment of the Russian Federation. I am grateful for the statements about future EU sanctions; these are all measures to contain the Russian Federation. We are also grateful for the support for strengthening Ukrainian defense, these are also measures to contain the Russian Federation. The best deterrence against Russia is a strong Ukraine,” said Dmitry Kuleba.
He also said that he would participate in a meeting with the French delegation, which will take place today in Kyiv.
“I will hold negotiations with my French colleague Jean Yves Ledrian. Of course, we are expecting the signals that Mr. Macron brought from Moscow. But I have already said more than once that we are open to dialogue, we are constructive and are looking for a diplomatic solution. But we will not cross our red lines. And no one can force us to cross them,” said Dmitry Kuleba.
The day before, the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that Kyiv does not intend to agree to negotiations with the LDPR, since this is allegedly not provided for by the Minsk agreements (in fact, the agreements on Donbass speak specifically about the need for dialogue and joint coordination of steps between Ukraine, Donetsk and Lugansk).
