Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: We are not going to celebrate May 9
Ukraine will not celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Victory over Nazi troops. Foreign Minister Vadim Prystaiko stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the diplomat, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky did not receive an official invitation to the Victory Day celebrations in Moscow, where many world leaders plan to attend. And in Ukraine itself this day will not be celebrated at the official level.
“The invitation didn’t come, first of all. It is usually transmitted through diplomatic channels. We didn’t receive it, we would have passed it on to President Zelensky if it had been received.
I wouldn't be surprised that the Russians would do something like this for certain political reasons, they do it often. For example, they wish Merry Christmas as if nothing had happened, and these lost souls do not go against all of Christ’s morals and ideas.
But our position now remains as it is – we are not going to celebrate May 9th. We, like the entire European continent, after 75 years are ready to understand why this tragedy happened and are ready to forgive each other. We believe that this is the direction we should move.
This should be a celebration of the fact that finally the continent has been in relative peace for 75 years, not counting our six years of war,” Prystaiko said.
