The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry did not see any autonomy for Donbass in the Steinmeier formula
Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Alexey Makeev, during a speech at the roundtable, said that the Steinmeier formula is only part of the issue of regulating the situation in Donbass and the Ukrainian authorities will not cross the “red lines,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
He wrote about this on his Twitter and Facebook accounts.
“The Steinmeier formula does not exist in nature, divorced from everything else, negotiations do not begin from the Steinmeier formula, all that the Steinmeier formula says is how the law on the peculiarities of local self-government can come into force. I emphasize that there is no autonomy there, only local self-government,” Makeev said.
He noted that elections in the uncontrolled territories of Donetsk and Lugansk regions must be democratic and comply with OSCE standards.
“Such elections will be recognized as democratic only when OSCE observers see that there are no “urks” with machine guns at the polling stations, there are no tanks near the polling station, any citizen of Ukraine who is in this territory can come and vote, including 1,5 XNUMX million IDPs, that the Ukrainian media will cover this process, the Ukrainian Central Election Commission will hold these elections, and any citizen of Ukraine will be able to run in these elections and any Ukrainian political party can nominate their candidacies in these elections,” Makeev noted.
Thus, Makeev continues, the demand of diplomats in the Russian Federation, which is supported by Ukrainian partners in the Normandy format, is to withdraw the armed forces and allow Ukraine to restore sovereignty over the currently uncontrolled territory.
“We are talking about local elections. There will be no presidents, no autonomy, no one will be allowed to choose there, because Ukraine is a unitary state,” Makeev clarified.
