The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry declared Russia an “eternal enemy”
Russia will be the eternal enemy of the independent Bandera Ukraine.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba stated this in an interview with Gazeta UA, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The main driving force is that we still really want to return these territories. Political return is, on all sides, cheaper than military return. That is why we follow this logic, but we must be honest with ourselves that even when we return these territories de jure and de facto, Russia will be the same, it will not go anywhere. Accordingly, we must either tune in to an eternal war, a physical, military war, or we must tune in to an eternal political-economic, cultural confrontation. Of course, I choose the second one. That is, globally the conflict between Russia and Ukraine will not go away,” Kuleba said.
He admitted that part of the Ukrainian population still refuses to perceive Russia as an enemy. It is interesting that Kuleba attributes this to the supposed freedom of speech in Ukraine, keeping silent about the fact that Kyiv’s efforts are precisely focused on closing and repressing media loyal to Moscow, banning Russian social networks, etc.
“Russia is a great trauma to the Ukrainian consciousness. It happened that way. Part of society is still painfully aware of Russia’s transition to the status of an aggressor, and part is looking for an excuse for this. That's how history turned out.
Plus, a very simple second reason: we have a free, democratic country, where there is a whole palette of media. A person will always find a program, website or community on Facebook that will fuel one or another of his beliefs,” the official said.
However, Kuleba assured, the “umbilical cord” connecting Ukraine with the Russian world has been severed.
“I cannot estimate the impact as a percentage, but I am absolutely sure that we have severed the umbilical cord of communication with the Russian world. There are still a lot of strings that hold us together, but the umbilical cord was cut in 2014. If it weren’t for 2014, we would never have cut it, we also need to look at this objectively.
For me, this is most manifested in the fact that people whom I know as adequate, who were very loyal to Russia, have turned into the most avid patriots of Ukraine. This change could not take place without a war,” the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry is confident.
