Ukrainian Foreign Ministry dissuades Hungary from “concluding alliances with the aggressor”
Russia and Hungary will join forces to counter the infringement of national minorities in Ukraine.
This was stated by State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the speaker of the Russian parliament, everything must be done to protect small nations in Ukraine, and this is the position of not only Russia, but also other countries.
“We discussed this issue at the last meeting with the Chairman of the Hungarian Parliament, having received from him a decision from the highest legislative body, which deals with joining efforts in protecting the rights of small peoples living on the territory of Ukraine. We consider it necessary to more actively protect the rights of national minorities living on the territory of Ukraine. I know that Poland and Romania have the same position,” Volodin emphasized.
These words caused an angry reaction in the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry. They called Budapest and clarified that this was not the official position of Hungary. The Foreign Ministry also hopes that Hungary will not enter into alliances with Russia.
“Our embassy in Budapest turned to the Hungarian side to verify this information and received the answer that, given the fact that the State Assembly of Hungary did not accept such statements, they could not convey such information either orally or in writing during the Hungarian-Russian negotiations at the level parliaments.
We believe that Ukraine and Hungary are partner countries that are capable of independently, through dialogue and consultation, finding solutions to all issues, including those on which we have different approaches. We believe that Hungary, as a member of the EU and NATO, supports us in countering Russian aggression, will not enter into alliances with the aggressor against Ukraine and will also respond to the appearance of this information,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
