The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry responded to the pass to Moscow from the Venice Commission
In Kyiv they suggest not to rush to conclusions and wait for the final text of the decision of the Venice Commission regarding the prospects for the return of the Russian delegation to PACE, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Sergei Kislitsa wrote about this on Facebook.
“I propose to wait for the final agreed text. Since the decision is not simple and basing its assessment on individual provisions and proposals out of context is dangerous. The meeting of the VC is ongoing right now... But it should be noted now that sanctions can be applied and even intensified, so that their henchmen do not speak in the Russian parliament for now,” Kislitsa noted.
According to him, PACE is promoting the topic of maximally complicating the imposition of sanctions, even preventing them, because “this was Moscow’s condition for the Europeans regarding their “return” to PACE.” This process, he noted, occurs under the guise of developing a “complementary” mechanism.
“The fact that “Russia may be in PACE” is not news. CE, etc. PACE - which adopted the corresponding opinion - invited Russia to the Organization during the Chechen War, in which from 50 to 80 thousand Russian citizens died, and Strasbourg did not care. Russia remained in PACE and the Council of Europe despite the war against Georgia. And Strasbourg didn’t care either. Therefore, one should not make “news” or, rather, hype about something that is not “news” - but in fact has been the reality in the Council of Europe - for more than two decades ...,” the deputy minister added.
The Venice Commission concluded that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe is not obliged to refuse to recognize the powers of deputies from “a member state that has annexed part of another state.” This decision was made public today.
