Migrants and Crimea split the Serbian opposition
The opposition pro-Western “Union for Serbia” practically split due to the position of one of its members, Boško Obradović.
The old-school liberal opposition, which once opposed Milosevic, could not let its nationalist partner tolerate his criticism of migration policy: Obradovic’s “Doors” party issued a petition against the construction of a center for migrants in Cacak.
In addition, Obradovic allowed himself to meet with Bundestag deputies from the right-wing opposition party Alternative for Germany, which criticizes Angela Merkel’s migration policy and supports Serbia on the Kosovo issue.
The first to “disown” the petition against the migrant center was the vice-president of the Djilas Freedom and Justice Party, Marinika Tepic. And the Democratic Party said that the coalition with “Doors” is unnatural.
Considering that the DP, the Doors, and the Freedom and Justice Party are part of the Union for Serbia, the question arises about the functionality of the coalition.
“A coalition with Dveri, with those who are constantly at odds with human rights, is unnatural, and this is reflected in the Union for Serbia.” The migrants did not come to eat anyone, but to save their own lives. If we do not understand what their problem is, then we will behave the same way towards the lives of our citizens.
In this way we justify the policies of the 1990s, which have in common with the criminal regimes of the Second World War and occupation. I think it’s wrong that with such a policy it’s impossible to fight against the regime,” said “democrat” Balsa Bozovic.
Vice-President of the Democratic Party Alexandra Yerkov reminded Obradovic of another “sin” - supporting the Russian status of Crimea.
“This is not the first time they have caused reputational damage; let’s remember the incident with the Crimean flag in parliament,” she notes.
Alternative for Germany publicly calls NATO's aggression in Kosovo and the subsequent "independence" of the territory illegal. The party supports President Aleksandar Vucic and the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Boško Obradović visited Crimea several times, and in December he was photographed in front of the Crimean flag with the Russian delegation in Belgrade, which included Natalia Poklonskaya.
