Mikhail Pogrebinsky: Ukraine has closed the last chance for compromise
The signing by President Petro Poroshenko of the scandalous law “on the reintegration of Donbass,” declaring Russia an “aggressor” and an “occupier,” means Ukraine’s refusal of the last chance to compromise with Russia.

“Poroshenko could not help but sign this law, but the consequences of this law are such that they make any movements towards Kyiv senseless for Russia. If something happens in the interests of Kyiv, it will be because Moscow decides not to create problems for the Ukrainian population. And if it is possible to do something that will create problems for the Ukrainian authorities, then it will be done.
We may not see this right away; perhaps it will appear after the presidential elections or the World Cup. But maintaining the “Russia-aggressor and occupier” format, confirmed by a majority vote in parliament and signed by the president, means closing the chances of a compromise with a large country on which Ukraine largely depends.
Of course, this law is incredible stupidity, it is a movement against the interests of the majority of the Ukrainian people, against the national interests of the country. But this was expected, so it is not surprising that Poroshenko signed this law,” Pogrebinsky said.
