Mikhailichenko almost got into a fight with Gascoigne
The famous Ukrainian football player, former player of the USSR national team, ex-player and coach of Dynamo Kyiv and the Ukrainian national team, Alexey Mikhailichenko, boasted that after the collapse of the Union he forced English football players to distinguish between Russians and Ukrainians.

According to Mikhailichenko, during his performances for the Scottish club Rangers, he had a small clash with the famous British football player Paul Gascoigne.
“Gascoigne was fooling around once, well, he jokingly called me “Russian so-and-so,” and I answered him: “And you’re Scottish so-and-so.” He says: "I'm not Scottish, I'm English." - “And I’m not Russian, I’m Ukrainian.” He says: “Okay, that's it.” Yes, there were such moments. Back then, in Scotland, where Oleg Kuznetsov was still there, they knew that we were Ukrainians, from Ukraine, Kyiv,” said Mikhailichenko.
