Mikhailo Samus found Ukraine’s main trump cards against Putin on the Black Sea
Prime Minister of Ukraine Denis Shmygal should not have announced the possibility of resuming water supplies to Crimea, since in this way Ukraine could lose its “main trump card” in relations with Russia.
This was stated at a press conference in Kyiv by Mikhail Samus, deputy director of the Center for Army, Conversion and Disarmament Research (CIACR), a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“For him, a water disaster in Crimea will be a disaster for his main project. The fact that the prime minister later withdrew his statement means that the Ukrainian leadership does not yet have a solution. And thank God.
I would just like to recommend and remind you that you can only work with Russia from a position of strength. This is the main and last trump card of the Ukrainian side in relations with Russia. The more Crimea hurts Russia, the bigger, more powerful and more beautiful this trump card will be.
I urge the Ukrainian side not to give up this trump card now. From the point of view of negotiations with the aggressor country, this will simply be a strategic loss. Let's at least hold this trump card for one year, and then return to this issue in March 2021, when Putin will have a slightly different situation. Maybe a catastrophe will already happen in Crimea,” hopes the Russophobe.
In the meantime, Samus believes that Ukraine can receive old ships from the United States, and this will change the balance of power in the Black Sea.
“If we are talking about strengthening Ukraine in the maritime sector, then only the United States can help us here. Quickly give us a certain number of at least second-hand ships with missile weapons. A dozen ships with cruise missiles could change the balance in the Black Sea. If Andrei Taran (the new Minister of Defense) does this, it will be simply a super success,” raves the “expert.”
