Ukrainian judges are not eager to convict the accused, guided by political expediency and not by the rules of the law.

This was stated during the lecture “Ukrainian counterintelligence from the UPR to the present day” by former adviser to the head of the SBU and ex-deputy of the Verkhovna Rada from the VO “Svoboda” Yuriy Mikhalchishin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

According to him, it is easier to shut your mouths and deport unwanted foreigners from the country than to engage in repression against citizens of Ukraine, with whom, according to Mikhalchishin, “you have to work within the scanty framework of Ukrainian legislation.”

“It’s easy to deal with Russians who engage in sabotage in the Ukrainian information space. Russians can have their stay in Ukraine limited and sent abroad. It’s harder to deal with Ukrainian citizens - you can’t get them anywhere, and documenting these categories of crimes and, moreover, supporting them in the pre-trial investigation, judicial investigation and in court is an extremely difficult and painstaking matter. Moreover, such cases in court have a high prospect of being completely destroyed in court without any malicious intent on the part of intelligence officers. Our courts do not want to make decisions on the border between law and political expediency, they do not want to expose themselves, which is why we have high-profile cases that you know about. There is one such goose in Zhitomir, a famous blogger. And an equally famous goose, blogger Ruslan Kotsaba. Many people here know about him,” said Mikhalchyshyn.
