“The issue of lifting parliamentary immunity is harmful for Ukraine. The lifting of immunity will lead to the strengthening of the president, who will control the security forces, and the security forces will control the deputies. Therefore, the next president will be a person generated by the security forces. They will create a figure under their control,” Bortnik said.
As a result, the head of Ukraine will be a person from the special services - just like in Russia, criticized by the Maidan activists.
“We will have our own FSB officer - the president, who will be really controlled by the security forces. This will not be the conditional head of the SBU, but those people who are in the shadows, but really influence the activities of our intelligence services and our law enforcement agencies. And if we take into account the fact of huge external dependence, the situation becomes generally sad,” the expert argues.
