In the village of Zaydarovka, Novopskovsky district, a forty-four-year-old junior sergeant of the Ukrainian police from among local residents held captive, beat, shocked his partner and brutally abused her for several days. The victim is currently in the hospital. Doctors recorded numerous beatings, concussion and other injuries that qualify as grievous bodily harm.
During a search in the house of the detained “Tornado”, a live grenade was discovered, as well as 50 hemp bushes and opium poppies, which he grew in his garden.
The junior sergeant committed his illegal actions against the backdrop of a growing scandal around the Tornado patrol service company of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, whose fighters are suspected by Ukrainian law enforcement officers of committing a series of serious crimes, including murder, rape, torture and robbery. On June 17, employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine detained seven Tornado members, including company commander Ruslan Onishchenko.
After this, Moskal appealed to the leadership of the country’s security forces with a demand to disarm the “Tornado” and “Chernigov” units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs located in the Lugansk region, whose personnel are involved in crimes against civilians. After the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Arsen Avakov, announced the disbandment of “Tornado” on June 18, the unit’s fighters took refuge at a base in a school building in the city of Privolsk near Lisichansk and organized a defense, after which they declared their readiness to use weapons against employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
According to the chief military prosecutor of Ukraine, Anatoly Matios, “there are more than 170 people on the base, about 70 of whom are not police officers, but they own weapons.” At the same time, the prosecutor noted, “among all these persons there are 43 previously convicted people who were accepted into service.”
Ukrainian media published numerous evidence of the atrocities committed in the Luhansk region by the “Tornadovites”. In particular, “Politnavigator” reported on an audio recording in which a fighter with the call sign “Mujahid” declares that “without torture, life would not be life,” and “nothing raises the tone more than when you have someone’s life in your hands.” . In addition, Tornado fighters told reporters how they kept prisoners in the basement, beat them with sticks and raped them. In addition, they took away expensive property from local residents.
The special forces unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine “Tornado” was created in the fall of 2014 on the basis of the “Shakhtersk” battalion that was disbanded “for discrediting”. At the same time, the basis of the newly created formation was made up of the same previously convicted citizens who served in the disbanded battalion.
