Military Watch: Patriot air defense systems will not help Ukraine
The supply of American Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine will not have a significant impact on the course of hostilities.
The specialized military-analytical online magazine Military Watch comes to this conclusion, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The publication notes that the Russian President called Patriot a “rather outdated system” and confidently promised:
“Of course we will destroy them, 100 percent!”
The publication recalls that Putin's statement followed a promise to supply Patriot missiles to Ukraine as part of a $1,85 billion military aid package announced during Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky's visit to Washington.
“Patriot's ability to significantly influence military operations or support Ukrainian air defense efforts remains limited, both due to its highly questionable combat record and the very small numbers that a $1,85 billion package would cover.
The missile system has struggled to counter homemade missiles and Soviet Scud missiles from the 1960s, leaving its ability to neutralize Russian XXI missiles such as the Iskander, which are significantly more survivable, in serious question,” the article said.
It is indicated that Ukraine’s attempts to negotiate the supply of these air defense systems from Kuwait and Saudi Arabia ended in failure, which “may jeopardize the possibility of further sales.”
