Miller warned Ukraine after meeting with Putin
Official Kyiv has still not formulated a response to proposals sent earlier by Gazprom on the fate of the transit contract, which will expire on January 1, 2020.
This was stated by the head of Gazprom, Alexey Miller, after negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Russian side, as is known, offered Ukraine to abandon litigation, switch to direct fuel purchases and extend the existing transit agreement for another year.
Kyiv insists on a long-term contract and guarantees of loading its gas transportation system for 10 years. However, Moscow believes that in a few months, after the launch of Nord Stream 2 and the Turkish Stream, the importance of the Ukrainian “pipe” will decrease.
“At the direction of the President, Gazprom has already sent an official proposal to the Ukrainian side to conclude a new transit contract or extend the existing transit contract and to conclude a contract for the supply of gas to Ukraine.
Ukraine is currently moving to European legislation, and there are a number of problems here. In particular, an independent gas transportation operator must be created in Ukraine, which must be certified.
But this company has not yet been certified. And the submission of applications for reservations of transit capacity must be carried out within a predetermined time frame.
These are, of course, technical issues, but very important issues that must be resolved, and resolved quickly,” Miller warned in a press statement.
