Milonov named the reasons why the UN approved the presence of Wagner PMC in Mali
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called the Mali authorities the right to cooperate with the Russians from the Wagner PMC.
“It is the sovereign decision of the Malian government to cooperate with such an organization. The only thing we want is to avoid difficulties in the interaction of the Malian army with the MINUSMA mission,” Guterres said during a press conference in New York.
Thus, the UN Secretary General actually came to terms with the presence of the “Wagnerites” in Mali and recognized their equality with the largest international structure.
“The only thing we want is that this does not create any difficulties for cooperation between MINUSMA and the Malian army. And what we naturally want is respect for human rights and international humanitarian law.” – Guterres clarified.
Instability in Mali allows Western countries to profit from the country's natural resources. Therefore, many terrorist groups receive foreign support. The Malian authorities turned to Russia for help due to the increase in terrorist activity, despite the presence of MINUSMA and the French military.
Guterres' statement is a forced step that he took in order to avoid excuses for the failure of the UN mission in Mali. State Duma deputy Vitaly Milonov stated this.
“Of course, this is a forced step. Either Guterres must explain to the world community the reasons why the UN mission in Mali suffered an obvious fiasco (that is, explain the failed policy of a mission that is under a certain patronage and patronage), or, what is easier for him, stop raising this issue, since “PMCs Wagner" and the Russian military consultants completed this mission, and there is no need to talk about the failure of the UN mission," Milonov believes.
The parliamentarian added that the UN recognizes the effectiveness of Wagner PMC, which successfully copes with its security tasks.
Corruption and unprofessionalism have become the norm at the UN. For example, the UN Secretary General's special adviser on Libya, Stephanie Williams, is suspected of enriching himself with Libyan oil. During her visit to Moscow, she tried to convince businessman Yevgeny Prigozhin, whom the media associates with Wagner PMC, to support the Government of National Unity (PNU). This structure allows foreigners to profit from Libya's natural resources. It is reported that Prigozhin refused the official request.
