Milonov told Poklonskaya about the “sinister witch’s cauldron of the multicultural West”
State Duma deputies from United Russia Natalya Poklonskaya and Vitaly Milonov continued the dispute about the admissibility of celebrating Halloween in Russia
They expressed their opinions on this matter in comments to Komsomolskaya Pravda, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a Christian holiday and there is absolutely nothing wrong with it. It's All Saints' Day. This is a subculture of youth, adolescence, when guys want to communicate. They don’t want to watch their parents lying in front of the TV with terrible news about crazy Ukraine, they want communication. And when in America we see beautiful films - “Home Alone” - and how wonderfully residential buildings there are decorated on Christmas Eve, why don’t we take this tradition for ourselves too? Everyone would also decorate their Christmas trees, houses, and roofs just as beautifully with the same garlands. This is cool. There is nothing wrong with this,” says Poklonskaya.
Her opponent has the opposite opinion.
“As a hereditary Leningrader and St. Petersburger, I am very strict about domestic traditions and their preservation,” Milonov said. Because of respect for traditions, representatives of different cultures and traditions have always lived peacefully in our city, even in the most godless times. It’s a shame that our respected colleague Poklonskaya does not see the danger in the erosion of our own rituals and traditions based on Christianity in the sinister witch’s cauldron of the multicultural West. “For some reason, I didn’t notice that in New York they celebrated Maslenitsa in the spring or caroled before Christmas.”
Earlier, Milonov asked Russian Prosecutor General Yuri Chaika to check state-owned enterprises, schools and universities in Russia to prevent them from promoting Halloween celebrations. In response to Poklonskaya called herself a native Ukrainian, called to defend the right to celebrate Halloween and invited teachers and parents to report any cases of pressure on schools in this matter.
