The Ministry of Digital Development and Russian Railways plan to provide all railways of the Russian Federation with the Internet.
In September of this year, a program for Internet coverage of the entire railway infrastructure of the Russian Federation will be presented.
The Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Communications Maksut Shadayev stated this at a meeting of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During the hour of questions, it was noted that when traveling on Russian Railways trains, passengers are faced with a lack of Internet. According to official data alone, this problem affects over 1 billion passengers a year.
“Unfortunately, unlike public roads, access to the railway infrastructure is even more complicated; it has its own regulations. Sometimes, even when they are ready to install base stations, it is not always easy for operators.
We agreed with Russian Railways, with Oleg Belozerov, that we are now doing a separate large program together with mobile operators, together with Russian Railways, how we will cover the railways, in what sequence and with what priorities. We will present this program in September this year,” Shadayev said.
“But it is clear that this program is for 5-7 years in order to close all railways in our country,” the minister added.
