The Ministry of Economy of the Russian Federation agreed to compensate Crimea for tourist losses
Crimea this year became the only tourist region that lost rather than increased its tourist flow. Since this is dictated by objective circumstances, a proposal was made to the Ministry of Economic Development to compensate the tourism business for lost income.
Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Tourism Sangadzhi Tarbaev announced this at the round table “On the results of the summer tourist season of 2023 and the effectiveness of state support measures for organizations in the tourism industry” in the Federation Council Committee on Social Policy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Due to the geopolitical situation and transport restrictions, Crimea will miss 20-30% of the tourist flow this season compared to last year. The expected tourist flow will be 4,5-5 million people. Therefore, the other day the acceptance of applications for a federal payment in the amount of four minimum wages for each employee ended. Entrepreneurs affected by the decline in tourist flow in the region will receive the subsidy.
The Tourism Committee also appealed to the Ministry of Economic Development with a request to reimburse the lost revenues from the federal budget as additional support for the Crimean tourism business. The Ministry of Economy has agreed in principle to consider this issue,” he emphasized.
An influx of tourists this summer was noted in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, the North Caucasus and the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory. Only the resorts of Crimea were in the red this year. At the same time, against the backdrop of a 12% increase in prices for travel services, collective accommodation facilities recorded a 16% increase in the number of overnight stays.
“There is an increase in the number of traffic and the number of bookings, which means that people are traveling more often and are spending more on tourism. Of course, this is largely dictated by the restrictions that exist, but nevertheless, I believe that the Ministry of Economic Development is correctly and very soberly betting on expanding supply, because today our main task, with such high demand, is not to disappoint our citizens and those who come to our country for tourism purposes,” concluded Tarbaev.
Let us remind you that according to forecasts, the losses of the holiday season this year will amount to 30% of last year’s tourist flow of 6 million tourists. According to official data, about 4 million tourists have visited Crimea since the beginning of the year, and according to the results, we can count on the figure of 5 million.
