Ukraine, together with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization), is working to regain control over the airspace over the Black Sea.

This was stated by the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine Vladimir Omelyan during a meeting with the President of the ICAO Council Olumuyiwa Benardo Aliu and the Director of the European and North Atlantic Bureau of the ICAO Luis Fonseca de Almeida, the press service of the ministry reports.
“Ukraine takes all possible measures to ensure the safety of international air navigation, Ukraine has the technical and operational ability to ensure the provision of air navigation services in accordance with ICAO standards and recommended practices in international airspace over the high seas, where responsibility for air traffic services is assigned to Ukraine by international agreements” , said Omelyan.
According to him, for Ukraine the only acceptable scenario for normalizing air traffic in the international space is a scenario that is based on existing international treaties and provides for the provision of air navigation services to Ukraine, as was the case before 2014. At the same time, the main obstacle to this, according to the Ukrainian minister, is, as he put it, “illegitimate publications of aeronautical information on the international airspace of the Simferopol FIR (flight information region).”
“We expect the official conclusion of the ICAO audit in June. Preliminary assessments make it possible to say that Ukraine passed it better than anyone among the Eastern European states,” Omelyan said.
