Italian Foreign Minister compared the threat from Ukraine to the war in Libya

Paolo Gentiloni believes that the EU views relations with Russia too one-sidedly, not noticing threats from other sides. Therefore, he calls for a certain relaxation in relations with Moscow.
Gentiloni does not believe that sanctions will be lifted in full, but partial lifting is possible.
The Italian Foreign Minister said that it is necessary for the EU to cooperate with Russia - especially in connection with the “threats from Mali in Pakistan”, which are no less dangerous for the EU than the threats in Ukraine. Using the example of Libya, he said that there is no simple solution to civil wars. Gentiloni said that he does not consider UN peacekeepers on Ukrainian territory to be such a solution.
Italy has always been one of the countries opposed to sanctions. Italian exports are suffering from the consequences of sanctions. Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi recently incurred the wrath of Brussels and Washington because, in defiance of the EU and the United States, he invited Vladimir Putin on a state visit. Along with Italy, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria and even France also openly oppose sanctions to one degree or another.
