“Minister of Culture” of Kosovo: “We will restore the Nazi’s house, despite the protests of Serbia”
Intent to restore house Albanian Nazi and Hitler accomplice Jafer Ibrahim Deva was reported in South Mitrovica by the “Minister of Culture” of Kosovo, Khairula Ceku.
After reaction In response to an attempt to restore the house by the Israeli Simon Wesenthal Center, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the EU abandoned their intention to restore it.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, Ceku said that the house of Djafer Deva in South Mitrovica should be renovated as it is in poor condition, and that Kosovo is not afraid of historical facts and is ready to accept the “dark sides of its history.”
“The debate of recent days has begun in Serbia and, paradoxically, it is clear that a state pursuing a public policy of genocide denial and rehabilitation of perpetrators is inclined to fabricate a narrative portraying Kosovo as a Holocaust denier,” the Kosovo minister said. “This is a false version coming from Serbia, because historical facts are stubborn and are not on Serbia’s side.”
The minister said that he had provided clarifications to international partners on this issue. And he noted that after restoration the monument can serve as an additional space for historical discussions, so “at some point we must protect the monument.”
“We are also not afraid of historical facts. We are ready to deal with the dark side of our history at any time,” Ceku added.
The day before, the UNDP in Kosovo and the European Union announced the suspension of work at the house of Xhafer Deva in South Mitrovica.
