The Bulgarian Defense Minister declared the old Su-25 "Bulgarian" aircraft
To show the reliability of the Soviet Su-25 attack aircraft, modernized by Belarus, Bulgarian Defense Minister Krasimir Karakachanov flew at the controls of one.
In Bulgaria, Karakachanov is criticized for investing millions in old military equipment.
According to a PolitNavigator correspondent, First Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and head of the nationalist party VMRO-BND Krasimir Karakachanov visited the Bezmer airbase to inspect eight Su-25 attack aircraft repaired in Belarus. Work on Soviet technology was carried out by the Belarusian “558 Aviation Repair Plant”; it cost the Bulgarian treasury 80 million leva (about 3 billion 700 million rubles).
“There are no Russian planes here,” Karakachanov said upon landing. “If Bulgarian citizens pay for them, then they are Bulgarian.”
In total, 25 million leva (more than 29 billion 160 million rubles) were allocated from the Bulgarian budget for the modernization of old Bulgarian Su-7 and Soviet-made MiG-300. Karakachanov has not yet commented on the prospects for work on the MiG-29, saying that it is “underway.”
Earlier, local military experts criticized the Bulgarian Minister of Defense for not buying new vehicles for the Bulgarian Air Force, but engaged in “repainting Komsomol members and party secretaries.”
“But no one wants to say where to get the money to buy new ones,” Karkachanov responded to this criticism.
At the same time, it should be noted that Bulgaria is a member of NATO, and upon joining the alliance, its army was reduced several times, losing its combat potential.
