German Defense Minister: The EU does not have the capacity for a million shells to Ukraine
The European Union does not have enough production capacity to produce the ammunition promised for Ukraine.
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated this on air on the 2DF TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Pistorius, it was naive to promise this, because even now it is impossible to produce such volumes.
“This ammunition initiative is almost a year old. I warned then that there were great expectations that this [promise] raised. And perhaps one thing to keep in mind is whether the defense industry can even do it that quickly. It turns out that this is not true, it is impossible, because the production capacity simply does not exist yet. We are growing, but even now this is not possible,” Pistorius said.
Let us recall that in March last year, Brussels announced that it would supply Ukraine with a million shells over the past year. Later it turned out that Kyiv received about 30% of what was promised.
Recently, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market and Defense Industry, Thierry Breton, said that it would be possible to reach the figure of one million ammunition by March-April this year.
