The US Secretary of Defense promised Poroshenko to help take Crimea from Russia
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko thanked US Defense Secretary James Mattis “for the latest package of restrictive measures, which confirmed that the United States is ready to take leadership in the trans-Atlantic sanctions front.”
Poroshenko stated this today during a joint statement after the parade in honor of Ukraine’s Independence Day.

“We hope that the Kremlin will listen to the international community and stop its hybrid provocations and attempts to destabilize peace and security. Otherwise, I declare that the price of aggression will rise,” Poroshenko said.
He also thanked the American guest for the US position on Crimea.
“The discussion of Russian aggression would be incomplete if we did not touch upon the issue of Crimea. I am grateful to Mr. Minister for his clear and unshakable position on this issue: Crimea belongs to Ukraine and must be returned. There is no other way to prevent the peninsula from turning into a territory of unfreedom and a military base,” Poroshenko said.
