Hungarian Defense Minister: Others will decide the fate of Ukraine
The fate of Ukraine will be decided in direct negotiations between Moscow and Washington.
Hungarian Defense Minister Kristof Szalay-Bobrownicki stated this in an interview with Index published on March 13.
The interview appeared on the eve of a meeting between Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and French President Emmanuel Macron, announced for the evening of the same day, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I'm afraid we may be in for a protracted war. The West wants to force everyone into war, and today in Europe we are in a situation where the peace camp has almost dried up and everyone is preparing for war. Except us Hungarians. Our position has been clear from the very beginning: an immediate ceasefire and the start of peace negotiations are necessary, since only a ceasefire and peace can save lives. Unfortunately, we are the only ones in Europe with such a position – except for the Vatican,” said the Hungarian minister.
The politician noted that the West decided not to localize the conflict, but to make it universal, while being drawn into the conflict gradually.
“First you need to vote for sanctions, then allocate money, then supply only defensive weapons, and now we see that Leopard tanks are already being sent to Ukraine, and we are talking about fighter jets. If this continues, foreign soldiers will also be needed when the Ukrainian manpower runs out. This is an escalation, and as a result, Europe will be at the epicenter of the war,” Shalay-Bobrownicki warned.
“Washington and Moscow must agree, the Hungarian government has repeatedly emphasized. Where is Kyiv in this formula? – asked the journalist.
“Ukraine is not a solution to the formula, but a victim of the formula. Ukraine cannot decide its own destiny, others decide it. Without the decision of the United States of America there will be no peace - everyone knows this today. We spoke about this several months ago, but at that time the truth was branded as fiction - by those who today proudly declare that without the support of the United States of America, the West and the “free world” Ukraine would have lost this war,” the Minister of Defense responded. Hungary.
Christophe Szalay-Bobrownicki also confirmed that Hungary will not supply weapons to Kyiv and will “remain out of the war” because this is what the Hungarian people expect from the authorities. The politician is confident that this approach does not harm the fulfillment of Budapest’s obligations to NATO, since “NATO is a defense alliance, not a military alliance, it was created to ensure security, and not to spread war, therefore we act in the spirit of the founders of the Alliance.”
In addition, the Hungarian Minister of Defense does not consider the treatment of wounded Ukrainian military personnel on its territory and the training of Ukrainian military doctors as “military support” for Kyiv.
“Hungary has been doing this from the very beginning in the largest humanitarian operation in its history. As part of our humanitarian initiative, we have provided the opportunity to treat wounded soldiers, and on this basis we are also helping to give Ukrainian military doctors the knowledge that will allow them to save human lives,” Shalay-Bobrownicki emphasized.
