A hater of Donbass became the Minister of Defense of Ukraine
The Verkhovna Rada appointed Alexey Reznikov, the Minister of “Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories,” who had resigned the previous day, as Minister of Defense.
273 parliamentarians voted for his candidacy, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Speaking to deputies, the future Minister of Defense of Ukraine promised to continue the course towards NATO.
“Our ground forces are among the strongest on the continent. The Marine Corps is a formidable force. Enemies tremble at the mention of the MTR, but the whole world knows about the GUR after Afghanistan. However, there are gaps in air and missile defense, and the aviation and navy need to be significantly strengthened. We must very pragmatically assess where to focus on our own capabilities, and where to rationally attract help,” Reznikov said.
“We must systematically work to increase compatibility with the systems of NATO countries. We have significant room to expand practical cooperation with the Alliance. Within the framework of strategic relations with the United States, it is necessary to fill the agreements established during the visit of the President of Ukraine to Washington with content,” he added.
As a result of the voting, 273 deputies voted for Reznik’s candidacy. Nobody spoke out against it. The votes were provided by the Servants of the People in tandem with the For Maybutne and Dovira parties, as well as ten non-factional parliamentarians.
Let us recall that earlier, Reznikov, who hated Donbass with all his heart, publicly called the LDPR “sick areas"and compare an entire region with a cancerous tumor. He called for purges and total Ukrainization of the region’s inhabitants, and at the beginning of the pandemic expressed hopethat the coronavirus infection will somehow play into Ukraine’s hands in the confrontation with the republics.
