Ministry of Culture of Ukraine: We cannot prohibit our artists from singing in Moscow
Ukraine should not punish artists who criticize those who supported the return of Crimea to Russia.
The Minister of Culture of Ukraine Alexander Tkachenko stated this on Channel 24, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, Ukraine cannot also prohibit its artists from performing in Russia.
“I stopped collaborating with the Russians; we filmed TV series together in 14. Unfortunately, I was one of the only people who did this. Just as we know, there are more artists who stopped performing in Russia and focused on the Ukrainian and international markets.
But on the other hand, we cannot prohibit Ani Lorak, Loboda, or anyone else who likes Moscow, despite all this, from speaking. This is their business, and the public, their public position can speak about whether they will accept this attitude of people towards the fact that they are speaking there or not...
As for artists, there should be a public discussion. We still live in a free country. If, as a result of this public discussion, the parliament makes a certain decision on the rules of who can speak here and who cannot speak...
If an artist expressed something somewhere, but did not break any laws, then this is his private point of view, which I do not support, I condemn, but on the other hand, we are also a free country. We cannot introduce bans for every statement or, on the contrary, give orders,” Tkachenko said.
