Kyiv, September 23 (Vladimir Raichenko) – The ascetic monk Sergius of Radonezh, revered as a saint by the Russian Orthodox Church, was considered unreliable in Kyiv and did not correspond to the current state policy of forming a single humanitarian space in Ukraine.

This was announced at the round table “Psychological aggression in the anti-Ukrainian information war” held in Kyiv by Vladimir Omelchuk, a leading researcher at the National Kiev-Pechersk Historical and Cultural Reserve, who in his speech shared the events taking place on the territory of the Lavra that outraged him.

“Periodically, all sorts of moves are held for the so-called Orthodox brotherhoods with portraits of Russian emperors and Putin,” an employee of the reserve is indignant. “I drew the attention of our leadership to the inadmissibility of any actions that could, in principle, contribute to the concentration around the Lavra of an anti-Ukrainian pro-Russian public volume of a certain group of people who are ready to make any proposals.”

According to the historian, the management of the reserve advised him not to interfere in the situation.

“This led to the fact that on June 22, the Kiev People’s Republic was proclaimed on the territory of the Kiev-Pechersk historical and cultural reserve,” he continued. – And in order to prevent, by analogy with the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, the further radicalization of these actions, a number of right-wing organizations, in particular, the all-Ukrainian association “Honest Word”, led a certain group of people to the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. They did not break through (witnesses in the SBU and the Ministry of Internal Affairs), they simply stood, preventing the further development of these events.”

It is worth noting that it was on June 22 that a PolitNavigator correspondent recorded on video how representatives of right-wing radical organizations beat police officers near the Lavra.

In turn, at the same time, people gathered on the territory of the Lavra, suspected of intending to publicize the Kyiv Republic, reported that they were planning only a traditional religious procession in memory of those killed during the Great Patriotic War.

According to Vladimir Omelchuk, such events are not consistent with the state policy of forming a single humanitarian space in Ukraine.

“For example, in the Lavra, even before the victory of the Maidan, an exhibition dedicated to the War of 1812 was held,” he continued. – And after the victory of the Maidan they tried to initiate (it was a decision of the academic council on the proposal of the director) to hold an exhibition related to Sergius of Radonezh, a famous church figure and educator. The explanatory note stated that this event was being held to popularize Slavic brotherhood and the power of Slavic weapons. This sounded like sacrilege in conditions when we saw elements of this Slavic brotherhood in the Donbass and Crimea.”

The scientist said that he appealed to the Ministry of Culture, the head of which took his side, and the relevant department of the department gave instructions to cancel the exhibition dedicated to Sergius of Radonezh.

Omelchuk also shared the results of a raid on Kyiv bookstores, as a result of which unreliable literature was discovered.

“In some stores in the central part of the city we found Project Ukraine books (Apparently, we are talking about books by the Folio publishing house, published in the Project Ukraine series. – Ed.), Kornilov’s books are actually books that deny the very existence of the Ukrainian state,” said Omelchuk. “How can we talk further about the east if we have such things in the Kiev-Pechersk Nature Reserve, in the Pochaev Lavra, and so on.”
