The Ministry of Defense abandoned the idea of building a branch of the Patriot Park near Sevastopol near Mount Gasforta. Acting Governor of Sevastopol Dmitry Ovsyannikov reported this on his Facebook page.

“The site in the area of Mount Gasforta will not be considered in the future by the Russian Ministry of Defense as potentially possible for the location of the Patriot park. I believe that the park is important for the patriotic education of the younger generation and is needed by the city. Our common position with the Ministry of Defense is that it can be implemented with the participation of the military department on other land plots on the territory of Sevastopol that are federally owned,” Ovsyanikov wrote.
City social activists have different assessments of the decision. The Chairman of the Council of Supporters of the United Russia WFP, Olga Dronova, believes that the project is completely closed and will not be implemented.
“Shoigu made a decision. There will be no Patriot Park. Not to be in Sevastopol. Congratulations on acquiring an enemy in the face of the Moscow Region. This action of the Moscow Region hammered another nail into the ratings of Chaly and his team,” says Dronova.
Another social activist, Oleg Nikolaev, on the contrary, welcomes the military’s decision. He also hopes that the city will now terminate the lease agreement with the Night Wolves motorcycle club, which leases land from Gasfort and holds its bike shows on it.
“Last August, the acting governor promised to reconsider the dubious agreement with the Night Wolves, but something stopped him. I hope that now the demands of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Legislative Assembly will be taken into account - the head of the city is no longer restrained by anything,” Nikolaev wrote on Facebook.
Nikolaev and other social activists close to the former “people’s mayor” Alexei Chaly believe that the Patriot project could be implemented on abandoned military batteries from different years, the largest of which - the 30th Coastal - is located on the territory of a military unit.
Previously, the Ministry of Defense announced its intention to invest 3 billion rubles in the construction of the park. Opponents of the project pointed to environmental dangers, and also stated that, in fact, “brothels and nightclubs” would be built near Gasfort.
